Canasta Fun can be both as an individual (2 players, head-to-head) or in a team (4 players, 2 vs. 2). The two variants follow these rules:

The 2-player variant

- Each player plays for themselves.
- 15 cards are dealt to each player.
- Players draw two cards each turn.
- No initial meld score is required to begin playing.
- One round is played. The player with the highest score at the end of the round wins.

The 4-player variant

- The 4 players are divided into two teams of two.
- 11 cards are dealt to each player.
- Players draw two cards each turn.
- No initial meld score is required to begin playing.
- One round is played. The team with the highest score at the end of the round wins.
